Frequently asked Questions

Who is it for?

If you're 18 or older and live in Tasmania, and you want to know more about your healthcare rights, how to advocate for yourself, and communicate effectively - this is for you! You could also have the chance to become a paid Consumer Representative if you feel that's right for you.

Do I have to complete all stages?

No. This is completely voluntary; you can opt out at any stage. Just attending Stages 1 & 2 will increase your skills and capacity to self-advocate.

Where will the training be?

Stages 1 + 2 will be in person on one day. We will be running sessions throughout the year in Hobart, Devonport & Launceston.

How do I sign up?

or email learninganddevelopment@mhlet.org.au or call 03 6223 1952 to register your interest. One of our team members will be in touch with further information.

How long will the course take?

Stages 1 + 2 are run over a 4-hour period on one day.  This in person workshop includes a lunch break. Stages 3 - 5 are approximately one hour each stage.

What supports should I expect to receive?

We will always have a trained lived experience support person on hand for support. If you require any additional supports or would like more information regarding supports, just contact us on 03 6223 1952.

Are there any assessments for this course?

No. There are no official assessments, just self-reflection questions to increase your learnings and awareness.

How will this course benefit me?

Learning how to stand up for yourself and understanding your rights and responsibilities in healthcare can give you confidence. If you're interested in becoming a Consumer Representative, you can get involved in advocacy work and possibly get the opportunity to earn at least $40 per hour for your time.

Is there a cancellation policy?

We would appreciate 48 hours' notice if you cannot attend for Stages 1 + 2, as these are catered.

What do I have to bring?

Nothing. Everything will be provided for Stages 1 + 2 (and includes a delicious lunch). You will need access to a smartphone, tablet or computer for Stage 3.

Do I receive a certificate at the end?

Yes. A certificate will be issued after completing Stages 1, 2 & 3.
